When Nankhumwa’s name is mentioned; what comes to mind many people is negativity. Negativity in the sense that he is accused by his detractors that he has bogus academic qualifications, qualifications alleged to be from his deceased relation. He attempted to set the record straight but not to the satisfaction of many. The second negative is that he is a leader of the opposition who has not done his job satisfactorily, like to say he is an incompetent leader of the opposition.
This notwithstanding, it appears Nankhumwa is loved by his peers as a capable leader such that members of Parliament have respect for him. They made and continue to defend him as Leader of the opposition much to the chagrin of Peter Mutharika, the President of the party, and his fellow old-timers. His fellow Mps peers even want to make him President of the party and presidential candidate for 2025. This is how much they trust him despite the negative publicity.
However, a fresh controversy has risen, Kondwani Nankhumwa has been summoned to appear before Child Justice Court in Lilongwe today on the 20th of April, 2023 for child maintenance issues.
What it means is that Nankhumwa fathered a child out of wedlock and he is tripping to help him or her. This means Nankhumwa is compromised but well, most people can be in this WhatsApp group so perhaps he cannot be blamed much.
