FND Applauds President Chakwera’s Choice of Chithyola as Finance Minister

Finance Minister: Simplex Chithyola Banda

The Forum for National Development (FND) has expressed its approval of President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s appointment of Simplex Chithyola as the Minister of Finance in Malawi. In a statement signed by FND chairperson Bright Kampaundi and National Coordinator Fryson Chodzi, the organization acknowledges that this change in leadership at the Ministry of Finance was long overdue due to a series of unexplained issues within the Ministry.

President Chakwera’s decision to replace Hon. Sosten Alfred Gwengwe with Chinthyola has garnered support from the FND. The organization highlights that Gwengwe had been associated with various financial controversies, such as the Bridgin Foundation, East Bridge fertilizer deal, Barkaat Foods Limited matter, Quay Energy, and numerous financial irregularities, including the issuance of sovereign guarantees. Therefore, the FND sees the change in the Ministry of Finance as necessary.

The FND extends its heartfelt congratulations to Hon. Simplex Chithyola Banda, expressing confidence in President Chakwera’s judgment in appointing him. The organization acknowledges that thorough background checks are typically conducted before such appointments and commends the President for upholding high standards of integrity and experience in the appointment process.

The FND wishes Hon. Chithyola Banda success in his role as Finance Minister, offering its support and urging him to prioritize honesty, transparency, and accountability in his endeavors. The organization advises him to remain committed to eradicating corruption and avoiding any political influence, emphasizing that doing so will build trust among the public and set a positive example for others in public service.

Regarding the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Extended Credit Facility (ECF), the FND encourages Hon. Chithyola Banda to stay focused and implement the necessary discipline and reforms to promote economic growth, improve fiscal management, and enhance the well-being of Malawi’s citizens. The organization emphasizes the importance of diligence and determination in implementing these measures and urges him to serve the nation with dedication, competence, and an unwavering commitment to the country’s development and prosperity. Together, they can work towards a brighter future for Malawi.
