Minister of Homeland Security, Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, declared the suspension of the National Identity Card’s expiry date until January 1, 2026. The announcement was made during his presentation of a ministerial statement in the national assembly this morning.

The decision to suspend the expiry date was taken in response to concerns raised by various stakeholders during their consultative meetings. President Lazarus Chakwera also issued two directives as part of this development: firstly, the removal of the K2,500 registration fee by the National Registration Bureau (NRB), and secondly, the waiving of the police report fee for lost IDs, both of which will be in effect until January 1, 2026.
