Chiefs in Mangochi Thank Chakwera for Makanjira Road Funding

Mangochi Chiefs

The Makanjira road has been a recurring theme in political rhetoric for an extended period, with little to show in terms of actual progress. Even during Bakili Muluzi’s decade-long leadership, a native of the Eastern Region, the road was neglected without tangible outcomes.

President Lazarus Chakwera has finally taken a decisive stance, declaring that enough is enough and acknowledging the rightful need for a better tarmac road for the people of Makanjira. In response to this, traditional Chiefs in Mangochi found it appropriate to express gratitude to President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera for securing funding for the Mangochi-Makanjira Road Project.

During a press conference in Mangochi on Monday, the Chiefs conveyed their optimism about the road, anticipating that its development will enhance trade, food security, and provide improved access to essential services in the district.

”The poor condition of the road has been of great concern among our subjects because of mobility challenges whenever they want to access service,” said Senior Chief Chowe

Present at the press briefing include Senior Chiefs Makanjira, Katuli and Luranga. Dr Chakwera signed the $20 million financing project with Saudi Fund For Development in Saudi Arabia weeks ago for the construction of the 102-kilometre road.
