President Chakwera Urges Church’s Anti-Corruption Support

During the consecration of Reverend Father Yohane Suzgo Nyirenda as the Auxiliary Bishop of Mzuzu Diocese at Mzuzu Stadium on Saturday, Dr Chakwera emphasized the need for collaboration between the clergy and the government in the fight against corruption in the country.

The Malawi leader stressed the need for the Church and government to deepen collaboration “as key partners in the socioeconomic betterment of our people.”

“We should, therefore, explore more and better ways of cooperating as we work towards achieving a better Malawi for everyone.

“Everyone should take responsibility to develop the nation for the public good and to the benefit of the poor,” said Dr Chakwera.

During his acceptance speech, Reverend Father Yohane Suzgo Nyirenda, the newly consecrated Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Mzuzu, reaffirmed his commitment to collaborate with the government in advancing the country’s development.

Bishop Yohane Suzgo Nyirenda, born in 1976, has held several significant roles within the church and was appointed to his current position by Pope Francis, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, on May 5th, 2023.
