Pres. Joyce Banda Urges Tree Planting for Greener Malawi

Joyce Banda

Former President Dr. Joyce Banda has issued a call to Malawians to intensify tree planting efforts as the ongoing tree-planting season progresses. Speaking during a tree-planting event in Domasi, Zomba on Tuesday, she emphasized the importance of this environmental initiative.

Furthermore, Dr. Banda revealed plans to plant trees in residential areas constructed for families affected by Cyclone Freddy. She underscored the necessity of fostering an ethos of environmental stewardship among citizens.

Reflecting on the catastrophic impact of Cyclone Freddy, a climate-induced cyclone that ravaged the country on March 12 last year and claimed over 500 lives in various districts of the Southern Region, Dr. Banda highlighted the urgent need for heightened awareness about climate change consequences.
