DPP Cancels Vigils Amidst Rising Tension with MCP Youth at Kamuzu Mausoleum

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has decided to cancel its planned vigils set for this afternoon at the Parliament building in Lilongwe. Victor Musowa, Chairperson of the DPP back benchers in Parliament, told the local media that this decision was made to avert a potential clash with Malawi Congress Party (MCP) supporters who are engaged in a cleaning exercise at Kamuzu Mausoleum, located nearby.

In the meantime, Emmanuel Thembachako, MCP National Youth Coordinator, explained that their activity is intended to honor the country’s first President, Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda, especially on Valentine’s Day, as a symbol of love for the nation.

Security has been heightened with armed police officers stationed at the entrances of both the Parliament building and Kamuzu Mausoleum.
