Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed Mr. Baldwin Samuel Chiyamwaka as the new Secretary for information and digitalization. Chiyamwaka has an impressive track record in the fields of communications, international development, human rights and education and has been recognized for his achievements with a prestigious IVLP award.
In the communication industry, Mr. Chiyamwaka has worked for major organizations, including Word Vision International, where he served as Communications specialist, and the Malawi News Agency (MANA), where he worked as a Journalist and Editor. He was also a Director for Media Council of Malawi.
In the development Sector, he has worked for more than 20 years, serving as Deputy Country Director for VSO international and Hivos Foundation, and holding key roles with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and senior Researcher at the prestigious think tank Institute for security Studies.
In addition to his professional experience, Mr. chiyamwaka has also served on several prominent boards and committees, where he has demonstrated his leadership and coordination skills. He has chaired the Civil and Political Rights Committee and the Access to information Committee at the Malawi Human Rights Commission, and has served as a board member for organizations such as the Farm Radio Trust (FRT), Foundation for Community and Capacity Development (FOCCAD), Public Relations Society of Malawi (PRSM) and the Lilongwe Pentecostal Church Private Schools. He currently chairs the Board of Trustees for the Public Relations Society of Malawi.
