As Lester Maganga, the suspect in the Allan Witika murder case, was being escorted to prison on remand, he was observed putting a black sweater over his hands, clutching a water bottle to conceal the handcuffs. This move comes as the Lilongwe Magistrate Court has shifted the murder case to the High Court.
During the court appearance of the accused, Lester Maganga, Senior Resident Magistrate Wanangwa Nyirenda stated that Maganga is facing a murder charge for his suspected involvement in Witika’s death in Area 15, Lilongwe, on September 20, 2023.
State Prosecutor Davison Banda requested the court to hold the accused in remand for a period of 90 days to facilitate thorough investigations.
Innocent Kubwalo, the lawyer representing the accused, informed the court of his intention to file a bail application at the High Court. Ultimately, the decision to detain the accused for 90 days will be at the discretion of the court.
