Minister of Agriculture, Sam Dalitso Kawale, on Thursday opened the 19th Agricultural Fair at the Trade Fair Grounds in Blantyre. In his remarks, Kawale urged farmers to actively engage in agricultural projects initiated by the government.
The Minster said government’s goal is to restore Malawi’s status as a prominent food supplier, reminiscent of the era under the leadership of the late Ngwazi H. Kamuzu Banda.
Kawale further emphasized that the Chakwera led administration is committed to establishing large-scale farms, a move intended to bolster food security and drive the nation’s progress. This initiative is expected to enable farmers to export their produce, contributing significantly to the country’s foreign exchange earnings.
In sum, the minister appealed to the younger generation to consider entering the agricultural sector. Doing so, he highlighted, would not only address unemployment challenges but also play a crucial role in sustaining the country’s economy.
