The lost-but-found circular artist who unsuccessfully tried gospel music while in South Africa has decided to come back home to Malawi for a stay. But his home-coming which was spiced with a music concert and gig on Sunday ended with new revelations: The musician is endowed with Bruce Lee kicks and Boika tempers.
While performing on stage, some of his admirers manifested their joy through jumping and singing along as the artist was doing the same. But one unlucky fan who exaggerated his joy by touching the anointed leg of Onesimus received a furious horse punishment which came in a form of front kick that probably sent the unlucky fan to the floor and bleeding. His joy for the day, and perhaps his admiration for the artist, got curtailed unexpectedly.
The incident has attracted backlash from commentators who have faulted the artist for “unnecessarily overreacting”.
“Onesimus could have known that he is an idol to some mortals. He couldn’t have kicked one who idolises him just because he was trying to touch him unless there was some perceived security risk. Normally, most fans of these celebrities do not harbour anything harmful. All they want is fun and more fun. What a regrettable action from Onesimus,” one commentator has said.
“This is barbaric and unacceptable. Was it dangerous to him for the fan to extend his joy by touching his leg on stage? What picture is he trying to portray? I think Amaryllis Hotel made a mistake in taking him for an ambassador. This is unacceptable behaviour,” said another commentator.
The Jozi-flavoured artist, who is recently picking beef with another celebrity singer Patience Namadingo, is currently having a deal with Amaryllis Hotel situated in Blantyre in which he is the hotel’s brand ambassador.
Onesimus, who is allegedly an adopted child of prophet Shepherd Bushiri, was born Armstrong Kalua but changed both his official and stage name to Onesimus. According to a statement he published on his post, prophet Bushiri instructed him to change his name to Onesimus. Prior to his music concert, he published an encounter with his legal father as follows:
“I had to go to my man of God Prophet Shepherd Bushiri; the one who always prays and encourages me to charge on. I found him at his house, he has prayed for me and released a blessing for the show tomorrow. No matter how golden the cup can be, it has to bow to the tap in order to draw water. Never forget your men of God who endlessly prayed for you as you were rising.”
