Despite being sick during new year’s eve, patients at Matuli Health Centre in Mzimba can now afford a smile after AFORD Victory Comrades donated to them some assorted groceries.
Susan Chisi, who was with her sick infant daughter at the facility said the groceries she has received are going to ease the burden her family could have had on new year’s day.
She said, “The commodities will assist my family because these are some of the basic needs that we need as a family.”
Also present during the donation was Group Village Headman Nyankhwemba Munthali from Matuli, under Traditional Authority Kampingo Sibande who thanked the Victory Comrades for choosing people from his area to benefit from the donation.
“We are very thankful for the gesture to give people who are sick an end of year cheer. It is not an easy thing for the victory comrades to come up with this donation and also thinking of choosing Matuli Health Centre’s patients as beneficiaries,” he said.
Medical Assistant at Matuli Health Centre Joseph Banda also chipped in by saying the donation is good for the recovery of patients as it boosts their morale.
“A patient most of the time finds it hard to get basic needs, this donation will assist these patients to boost their recovery,” said Banda.
One of the members of the grouping, Lusungu Mwakhwawa said AFORD Victory Comrades is a grouping that was established to support the party’s President Enoch Chihana in his efforts of assisting vulnerable persons and communities.
“That is why we chose to contribute as members so that we should come here in Matuli, in the rural set up where there are people who meet many challenges especially when they are sick.
“This donation is meant to cheer them up as they are in difficult times during this festive season,” he said.
The donated items included soap, sugar, salt,  loaves of bread and rice.
Victory Comrades is a grouping of young intellectuals which serves as an arm of the Alliance for Democracy, AFORD.
