Airtel and TNM have traditionally dominated the telecommunications landscape, but there’s a new player in town. Blantyre recently witnessed the launch of Zero 2, a fresh entrant into the telecommunications sector. This new company is set to offer mobile phone network and internet services.
Faizal Okhai, the Managing Director of Zero 2, revealed during the Blantyre launch event that the company has invested over K15 billion in cutting-edge GSM and 4G LTE network infrastructure.
“Our main target is the low-middle-income Malawians, who need affordable and high-quality communications for their development,” said Okhai.
Minister of Information and Digitalisation, Moses Kunkuyu, graced the official launch. He said technological development is a catalyst for economic development in line with the Malawi 2063.
“The current leadership is committed to providing an enabling environment for the private sector to flourish, for the benefit of local people,” said Kunkuyu.
As part of the launch, Zero 2 will offer unlimited free on-net calls plus unlimited free WhatsApp connection for one year to new customers connecting to its 0222 numbers. Malawians will therefore have a choice of where to go get better services.
