Malawi Congress Party delegates who gathered at Chule Primary School in Dedza Central Constituency on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, to choose a candidate among ten contenders for the upcoming Parliamentary by-election, have selected Willard Gwengwe to represent the party.
Gwengwe, one of the ten candidates, secured 508 votes out of the total 1,314 cast, leading to his victory. Donald Kazanga emerged as the runner-up with 241 votes.
Delegates who were interviewed right after voting expressed their satisfaction with the election process, highlighting its fairness and transparency.
Gwengwe has previously held the position of Member of Parliament for Lilongwe South East Constituency.
At present, the Malawi Electoral Commission is in charge of arranging a by-election in Dedza Central Constituency due to the unfortunate demise of the former Parliamentarian for the region, Daniel Chiwere, on July 17 of this year.
