In a true reflection of perfect world of politics, the UTM Presidential contenders, Mr. Newton Kambala, Dr. Dalitso Kabambe, and Mr. Penjani Kaluwa, have declared that the anticipated UTM convention will proceed as scheduled on November 17th, irrespective of the ongoing legal turmoil surrounding fellow contender Patricia Kaliati.
Kaliati, who is currently in police custody, has been implicated in what sources describe as a “very serious offence,” reportedly in collaboration with two accomplices who have since fled the country.
The severity of the allegations has raised concerns about her potential release as evidence against her appears to be severely damning.
Frustrated yet resolute, Kambala, Kabambe, and Kaluwa communicated their intentions through placards stating “convention sitikusintha” (the convention will go ahead) which were displayed by their supporter accompanying them to Lingadzi police station, where Kaliati is being held.
Witnesses noted that Kaliati was seen visibly distressed at the facility, shedding tears over her precarious situation.
The challengers explained that while they respect Kaliati as a competitor, the necessity of moving forward with the convention is paramount for the UTM party’s future. “Our party cannot afford to halt its progress due to the legal issues of one member,” Kambala remarked after visiting their fellow.
Sources within the police have suggested that the evidence against Kaliati is substantial, making her chances of release prior to trial highly unlikely.
