Betchani Tchereni, the current president of the Economics Association of Malawi, has been appointed as the new Secretary to the Treasury, taking over from MacDonald Mafuta Mwale. Mwale, in turn, has transitioned back to the Reserve Bank of Malawi, assuming the role of Deputy Governor.
Prior to his Treasury position, Mwale served as the Director of Research and Statistics at RBM. Meanwhile, Tchereni, before undertaking the Treasury role, held the position of executive Dean at the School of Business and Economic Sciences at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Science (Mubas).
