Mzuzu University moves in to discipline students who staged violent fees must fall demonstrations

Requires MK350,000 to replace this sign post

Two weeks after Mzuzu University students staged violent demonstrations, Management has moved in to discipline the students alleged to have perpetrated the demonstrations. In a memo which they have released dated 25th September, 2023, the University Registrar said was writing to apprise the student community that the University would be inviting students for disciplinary hearings during the week beginning Monday, 2nd October 2023.

“In this regard, we would like to ask all members of the University community who can identify students who perpetrated the violence and participated in: a) Blocking the M1 road with human shield and with materials, setting fires on it and causing damage to the tarmac; b) Blocking traffic and extorting money from road users to be allowed safe passage; c) Vandalising business kiosks and sign posts; d) Using abusive language against staff, fellow students and members of the general public; and e) Perpetrating or threatening physical violence including manhandling against staff, fellow students or members of the general public.”

“The University shall respect sources or individuals who will opt to remain anonymous after providing the necessary information. Your support regarding this matter will be greatly appreciated as we all work towards building our University into the MZUNI we want, through an open, transparent and fair justice process,” concluded the memo.
