Joseph Chavula, the regional chairman for the north of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), has urged new members joining the party to uphold its fundamental principles of Unity, Loyalty, Obedience, and Discipline. Chavula emphasized that these principles played a crucial role in keeping the party resilient during its 26-year tenure in opposition after being removed from government in 1994.
Chavula made these remarks at the MCP’s regional headquarters in Mzuzu while welcoming new members from other political parties into the party, alongside the Mzuzu District Committee. One of the defectors, Khumbo Mwangulu, a former Publicity Secretary of the Alliance for Democracy (Aford), expressed his decision to join the MCP, stating his intention to support President Lazarus Chakwera in his efforts to serve the people of Malawi.
