Mutharika’s abscondment of funeral service for the departed Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) guru, Goodall Gondwe, is arguably the most clear evidence that Mutharika lacks touch with Malawian culture and is perhaps a vulture.
Goodall Gondwe has worked tirelessly even in his old age for the DPP. During the 2019 presidential campaign, in which Gondwe was campaigning for Peter Mutharika, the departed political actor was seen struggling to barely stand for a couple of minutes such that he had to be addressing whistle stop rallied which seated unto a provisional sit at the back of a pickup.
All that sacrifice, it appears, moved no nerve of appreciation in Mutharika who has failed to reciprocate with honour to the remains of his ‘political slave’.
Mutharika, who is known, to be insensitive to any culture in Malawi and holds himself as an American has times without number failed to even pretend that he is sensitive to misfortunes of his associates and Malawians in general.
Meanwhile, President Lazarus Chakwera who belongs to a different political family to that of the late Gondwe had to re-organize his diary in order to pay his last respect to Gondwe who has served the Malawi Government for a long time.
A state funeral has been accorded to the late Gondwe thanks to President Chakwera’s orders as Head of State.
