Chakwera’s initiation of the Mega Farm project is yielding positive results, particularly evident in the efforts of the Malawi Defence Force (MDF). Collaborating with the Ministry of Defence, the MDF has taken a noteworthy step in alignment with President Lazarus Chakwera’s vision of establishing Mega Farms across the country to enhance food security.

Operating through the Malawi National Service, a developmental branch of the MDF, they have successfully cultivated over a thousand tons of maize on a 100-hectare plot at their Gada farm in Mchinji district. This maize is primed for national consumption.

Minister of Defence, Hon Harry Mlekanjala Mkandawire, expressed his enthusiasm for the progress achieved by the MDF on his official Facebook page. He also revealed plans for upcoming winter cropping, which will be supported by a cutting-edge pivot irrigation system.

The endeavor embodies President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera’s vision of establishing Mega Farms and fostering self-reliance in food security for Malawi.
