The Minister of Water and Sanitation, in a statement on Saturday, highlighted the development projects that Chakwera has completed in the water sector. Below is the statement reproduced in full:
PRESIDENT CHAKWERA CHAMPIONS HUGE WATER INFRASTRUCTURAL PROJECTS IN THE COUNTRY
Fellow Malawians,
President Dr Chakwera has left an indelible mark on the Water and Sanitation Sector.
Two days ago, we had the privilege of hosting the President at the inauguration of the Nkhudzi-Bay Water Project, a monumental water infrastructural project set to benefit over 92,000 residents in Mangochi.
Through the Ministry of Water and Sanitation, the President is involved in the development of water infrastructural projects across the country, with all Malawians in mind.
Last month, we invited the President to commission another important water infrastructural project in Nkhatabay. Before that, we invited the President to commission the rehabilitation and expansion of Kamuzu Dam in Malingunde, Lilongwe. These are all very significant water projects involving massive input, for the benefit of the Malawian people.
We remain steadfastly committed to our mandate, as the President champions similar projects in other parts of the country to ensure that everyone in our country will have access to potable water.
As the Minister of Water and Sanitation, I am confident that on this trajectory, with the President’s guidance, Malawi will meet UN Sustainable Development Goal Number 6 on our way to realizing the Malawi 2063 vision.
Abida Sidik Mia, MP.
Minister of Water and Sanitation
