Malawi Queens Thrashed by South Africa in Netball Trination Series

Malawi Netball Queens preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Games slated to start late July this year have been dealt a major blow after the team was convincingly beaten 93-48 by South Africa’s Spar Proteas in a Trination testing match at Bloemhof High School Indoor Court in Cape Town.

The match result has given Queens coach Peace Chawinga-Kaluwa food for thought before their next test match against another big side, England tomorrow afternoon before wrapping up against South Africa again on Saturday 2nd July.

These matches are meant to give the Queens a taste of what to expect at the Commonwealth Games and the loss at the hands of their African rivals clearly shows the gap that the Malawi’s pride has to bridge in order to be competitive at the games.

Interestingly, England are in the same pool B as Malawi at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games together with New Zealand, Uganda, Trinidad and Tobago as well as Northern Ireland.

The Commonwealth Games begin on 29th July to 8th August 2022.
