Malawi as a member of the commonwealth whose head is the former colonialist imperial power Britain has sent her President Lazarus Chakwera to be part of the coronation of King Charles III and his wife Camila, the Queen Consort this Saturday. The coronation will take place at Westminster Abbey in London.
Speaking on departure at Kamuzu International Airport, Chakwera said that his being part of the coronation is a demonstration of Malawi’s solidarity and commitment to the King and the United Kingdom (UK).
According to Chakwera, there is a special relationship between the United Kingdom and Commonwealth member states. The Malawi leader will return home on May 9. King Charles replaces his mother the late Queen Elizabeth.
