Malawi leader Lazarus Chakwera says is geared up for the 2023 Presidential Charity Golf Tournament scheduled to take place this Saturday at the Lilongwe Golf Club. According to State House Press Secretary Anthony Kasunda, Dr. Chakwera has undertaken special personal training to ensure he performs at his best on the golf course during the event.
The President has also commended the companies and organizations that have pledged to sponsor the tournament. The primary aim of the tournament is to raise funds for both Cyclone Freddy survivors and to provide tuition fees for students in need at public and private universities nationwide.
Kasunda noted that preparations for the golf tournament are nearly complete, with the main organizing committee having successfully mobilized close to the targeted K400 million. He further urged more companies and individuals to join the noble cause on the day by offering various forms of financial and material support.
“The preparations are almost done and President Chakwera is ready to compete for the medals, golfers should expect a real challenge from Dr Chakwera as he is tuning up for the tournament,” said Kasunda.
The inaugural Presidential Charity Golf Tournament was launched last year, raising approximately K280 million, which was then donated to aid those affected by the destruction caused by Cyclone Freddy. President Chakwera is set to partner with his Vice President, Dr. Saulos Chilima, for the entire 18-hole golf competition.
