DPP Heavyweight Mwai Kamuyambeni Shifts Loyalties, Joins MCP

Mwai Kamuyamben joins MCP

The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) remains a magnet for high-ranking officials from opposing political factions. Shortly after Umodzi Party President Professor John Chisi defected to the MCP, followed by the former Vice President for the Central Region, Zelia Chakale, another prominent member, Mwai Kamuyambeni, has also switched allegiance from the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to the MCP in Dedza.

Kamuyambeni expressed that his decision to join the MCP signifies his dedication to supporting the party’s success in the upcoming 2025 general elections.

“I have decided to join the party because of various development projects the current government is doing across the country,” he said.

Welcoming Kamuyambeni, MCP Regional Chairman for the Centre, Patrick Chilondola, described Kamuyambeni as a wise man with the potential to support the party in the 2025 Tripartite Elections.

“Malawi Congress Party has an open door policy to allow those who want to join to come willfully. Recently, we have received a DPP Vice President for the Centre, we expect more to come,” he observed.

Kamuyambeni was unveiled at Chilamba Primary School Ground during the MCP public rally.
