Malawi Parliament confirms Thomas Makiwa as Auditor General

Thomas Makiwa has been unanimously approved by Parliament to assume the role of the nation’s Auditor General. Makiwa garnered support from both sides of the House, receiving endorsement from the Public Appointments Committee, as conveyed in a report presented by its Chairperson, Joyce Chitsulo.

Finance Minister Sosten Gwengwe provided details about Makiwa, revealing that he was born on January 4, 1977, hailing from Shuga Village within the jurisdiction of Traditional Authority Kalembo in Balaka District.

Makiwa’s educational journey commenced at St. Paul the Apostle Seminary in Mangochi, and he subsequently earned admission to the University of Malawi’s former Polytechnic, where he achieved a Bachelor of Accountancy degree with a Credit in 2001.

In 2010, the Government of Malawi sponsored his studies at Coventry University in the United Kingdom, where he achieved a Master of Science in Finance with a distinction. The position of Auditor General has remained vacant since 2018.
