The South African branch of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Diaspora Network has affirmed its commitment to collaborating with the Malawian Government on its Mega Farms Initiative and other developmental undertakings.
Isaac Nkhata, the Director of the MCP RSA Wing, said this during a gathering of the network in Cape Town. He emphasized that MCP supporters, akin to all Malawians residing abroad, hold a pivotal role in propelling Malawi’s development by leveraging their experiences gained overseas.
Phaskani Msiska, the Treasurer General for the MCP RSA Wing, disclosed that the team is presently engaged in procuring maize for Malawi, as part of efforts to augment the existing stock and mitigate food scarcity stemming from the impacts of Cyclone Freddy.
Furthermore, Msiska revealed that MCP supporters within the network are in the process of coordinating the acquisition of agricultural mechanization equipment, including tractors and shellers, to bolster President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s Mega Farms Initiative.
He also expressed confidence that these mega farms will significantly contribute to ensuring food security in the country.
