Hunting the hunter as NGOs cornered for transparency and accountability

NGos as well must be held accountable

Chief Executive Officer for Non-Governmental Organisations Regulatory Authority (NGORA), Edward Chileka Banda says NGOs must be transparent and accountable.

“As NGO regulatory authority, we are coming up with regulations which will make sure that every NGO operating in the country must be registered and renew their license, so that we are able to establish where a particular NGO is based for us to follow up the work which they are doing,” he said.

In her remarks, Country Director of Self Help Africa and co-chair of the International Non-Governmental Organisation (INGO) forum in Malawi, Kate Harteley-Louis, said as NGOs, they are donor-funded hence the need to be transparent in their work towards helping people in the communities.

NGOs in Malawi are in the fore front of providing checks and balances for the state when they themselves are rotten to the core. They with the registration in the offing have to test their own medicine.
