Government through the minister of water and sanitation has on Wednesday assured Malawians that necessary measures have been put in place in the implementation of free water connection so that deserving citizens benefit from it.
Minister responsible, Abida Mia, made the assurance in Lilongwe during a Government Faces the Press event organised by Minister of Information and Digitalization, Gospel Kazako.
The development comes after the government commenced the free water connection on 1st April 2022.
In her remarks, Mia said the government introduced the policy in order to improve people’s livelihoods hence the need to make sure unscrupulous persons do not abuse the free water connection.
“The free water connection is the government’s way of improving livelihoods, especially prevention of waterborne diseases. Water boards are going to scrutinize all applications so that only those that deserve to benefit from free water connection should benefit.
“This free water connection has already started and eligible Malawians can start going to their nearest Water Boards with their national identification and they will be assisted accordingly,” said Mia.
Concurring with Mia, information minister Gospel Kazako warned individuals that would like to take advantage of the free water connections and want to connect more than one property.
“As Malawians we should love one another by giving each other chances so that everyone should have access to free water connectivity,” Kazako said.
The press briefing by the Minister of Water and Sanitation is part of the recently introduced Government Faces the Press, which is aimed at updating the public on government policies as well projects currently being implemented.
