Government through the Ministry of Labour has released the names of successful youths who have been employed under the 6th cohort of the graduate internship programme.
In a statement dated 27th April 2022, signed by the secretary for labor Wezi Kayira, the sixth cohort which has 1,299 graduates will report for duties on June 1st, 2022 and will sign a one-year contract as per government policy.
“The government policy is to engage the interns for a maximum period of one year. Therefore, the sixth cohort interns will sign contracts for the period from 1st June 2022 to 31st May 2023 hence the official date to report for duties is 1stJune 2022,” reads the statement in part.
The ministry has since urged all ministry departments and parastatals where the interns will be placed to offer them support, so they gain the necessary work experience for the time they will be under the program.
“All relevant stakeholders are requested to support the interns to enable them settle smoothly in their respective designated work places. The ministry wishes to further appeal to all heads of institutions to ensure that interns re adequately engaged in work to enable them gain experience, which is the ultimate objective of the program,” concluded the statement.
The Ministry says will send officials to all districts to administer contracts signing and verification of original certificates and national identity cards.
The graduate internship programme was introduced in 2018 to curb youth unemployment.
