Fake medical intern busted at Queens, arrested

BY UCHIZI MBANGE

20 year-old Tadala Sambani is being held at Blantyre Police for allegedly posing as a medical intern at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital in the commercial capital Blantyre.

According to a statement by Blantyre Police spokesman, Peter Mchiza, the suspect had, for a number of days, been seen around at QECH dressed in full medical personnel attire.

“She was moving from one office to another just like any other employee at the place but no one had knowledge about her.

“On Thursday, October 13, 2022 Sambani was dressed in her medical assistant regalia and one medical officer suspected her and ordered security personnel to interrogate her,” said Mchiza.

Mchiza said, upon interrogation, the suspect said she was a intern doing her practicals at the hospital but when sucurity officers tried to confirm with authorities on the same she confessed that she was just impersonating.

It has not yet known why Sambani did so but Mchiza said she will answer the charge of impersonating a public officer.

Blantyre police has since called upon hospital managers in the district to be extra vigilant in noting unscrupulous people at their working places.
