In a General Notice and Staff update signed by the Acting Director of Human Resources Management dated 6th October, 2023, William Liabunya, who was the Chief Executive Director of the power generation EGENCO and Ms Videlira Mluwira, the Company Secretary, has been sent on leave pending forensic audit investigations which have been instituted by government.
“In view of the foregoing, the Director of Operations Dr. Maxon Chitawo, has been appointed as the responsible officer for the office of the Chief Executive Officer with immediate effect,” in part reads the update.
He concluded:
“Join me in congratulating Dr. Maxon Chitawo on his appointment and wish him well as he starts to discharge duties of this challenging office.”
Before joining EGENCO, Dr. Chitawo was a senior lecturer in Renewable Energy Technologies at Mzuzu University.
