Pres. Chakwera Joins Mozambican and Zambian Leaders to Inaugurate Upgraded Nacala Port

Brothers; President Chakwera and Nyusi

The President of Malawi, President Lazarus Chakwera, has traveled to Mozambique to participate alongside President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi of Mozambique and President Hakainde Hichilema of Zambia in the official opening ceremony of the enhanced Nacala Port facility. This initiative aims to enhance regional trade and integration.

President Chakwera highlighted that Nacala Port serves as Malawi’s most efficient and cost-effective route for transporting essential goods, including fertilizers, fuel, pharmaceuticals, grains, and various fast-moving consumer products.

“An improved port facility and the full operationalisation of the entire Nacala Development Corridor stands to improve Malawi’s trade competitiveness and economic growth.

“In addition, the Corridor will improve internet connectivity and subsequently facilitate lowering of data charges. Malawi plans direct connectivity to the 45,000 km-long submarine cable that is set to land at Nacala from Europe and India,” Said the President.

He added that it is on these two key aspects that the trip to Nacala is significant for Malawi’s development agenda.
