In a rather unsurprising move, the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) National Governing Council has officially endorsed Peter Mutharika, the party president, as its candidate for the 2025 elections. This decision was reached during a meeting held today in Mangochi.
As part of the resolutions made during the meeting, it was agreed that the party’s elective conference, which was initially scheduled for this year, will now take place in July of the following year. This extended timeframe will allow the party to incorporate constitutional changes that were discussed and agreed upon during the NGC meeting.
Peter Mutharika, in response to the endorsement, has communicated to the media that he appreciates the support and looks forward to the upcoming elections with the backing of the DPP.
