DPP Apologizes for 2011 Demo Deaths as AFORD’s Chihana says DPP’s Era to Govern Malawi is Long Gone

Mganda Chiume

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has issued an apology to the people of Malawi for the death of 20 individuals during the 2011 protests against poor economic management.

The apology was conveyed by Deputy Secretary General Sam Mganda Chiume. Chiume assured that such tragic incidents will not occur again in 2025 if the party is given back the opportunity to lead government again in 2025. He pointed out that during Peter Mutharika’s leadership, despite protests, no casualties were recorded, indicating the party’s increased maturity.

At the same event, AFORD President Enock Chihana expressed that the DPP’s time in government is now over, and it is an opportune moment for other political parties to take charge of the country’s governance.
