Chancellor Chakwera Romances Varsity Students with 60% upkeep increase

Vice Chancellor Chakwera

There is joy and celebration in the corridors of Institutions of higher learning in the country due to the good news to the effect that President Lazarus Chakwera who is also the Chancellor of all public universities in the country has increased upkeep loan for students by 60 percent.

The good news has been conveyed to the public by the Higher Education Students’ Loans & Grants Board.

“Government has increased upkeep loan for students in public institutions of higher learning from K350,000 to K560,000 per annum, representing a 60 percent increase,” the announcement reads.

Reacting, one student at Mzuzu University speaking under the veil of anonymity did not hide his happiness.

“As a student in dire need, the previous stipend was insufficient, exacerbated by the currency devaluation. However, with this generous development, our burdens will be alleviated.”

Echoing this sentiment, another student from the same institution remarked succinctly, yet profoundly: “We shall reciprocate this favour to Chakwera in 2025,” hinting at an unspoken commitment to honor the President’s goodwill in the future.
