Former president and current Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader Arthur Peter Mutharika has advised Ken Msonda to stop lying to the public.

Mutharika is astonished to learn about Msonda’s assertions that he had a talk with him, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Shadreck Namalomba.

“As spokesperson of His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, the Former President of Malawi and President of The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) I write to convey His Excellency’s shock and disappointment with Mr. Ken Msonda claiming about having regular conversations with the President on his candidacy for the 2025 presidential elections.

“Mr. Ken Msonda is well aware that for 12 months now he and the President have not spoken to each other. Mr. Ken Msonda is also aware that he is not a member of the National Governing Council of the Democratic Progressive Party, because he was neither elected at the 2018 Political Conference nor subsequently appointed as one,” reads the statement.

It adds: “The Public may therefore wish to know that Mr. Ken Msonda has always wished, albeit without success, to be His Excellency’s political confidant.

“The simple advice I wish to convey to Mr Ken Msonda is to stop telling lies. Stop speaking on behalf of the President. Stop representing yourself as a member of the National Governing Council. To do this is to commit a crime.”

Reacting, Msonda says the statement is misleading.

“I have no comment. I cannot waste my time commenting on a misleading statement from Hons Mphepo, Chipungu and Namalomba and not necessarily from my beloved party president HE APM.

“Suffice to say it is against my Spiritual, Human and Political maturity and morals to argue with someone I regard as a father in public. Some of the issues highlighted in this statement are in Court, so I reserve my comment at the moment. I shall speak at the appropriate time,” said Msonda.

Msonda was one of the recycled politicians that joined the DPP in 2016 following a brief stint with Joyce Banda’s People’s Party (PP).

Msonda was a key leader of the United Democratic Front (UDF) before joining PP, where he fought for a fair and transparent election for the party’s head, albeit without success.

currently, he is in Kondwani Nankhumwa’s camp against Mutharika and his allies like Namalomba, Chimwemwe Chipungu, Francis Mphepo and others.
