Abuse of office lands ex-Malawi Judiciary spokesman Mlenga Mvula to jail

Mlenga Mvula

Mlenga Mvula, the one-time spokesperson of the revered judiciary in the country, was convicted and now has been sentenced to 2 years and 6 months imprisonment for corruptly soliciting about K10.7 million from United Methodist Church between 2016 and 2017. His accomplice Reverend Daniel Mhone who was charged alongside Mvula has been given a suspended sentence.

High Court Judge Sylvester Kalembera passed the sentence in the process firing a warning shot that if you are a judicial officer and you happen to find yourself on the wrong side of the law, you will end up in jail just so as to deter others whilst your accomplice is given a suspended sentence perhaps because it will be assumed that you as a judicial officer needed to know better that what you were embarking on was a criminal enterprise.
