Madam Monica Chakwera, the First Lady of Malawi, has called upon Quadria Muslim Women to assist the government in spreading awareness about climate change. She also urged women to actively participate in readiness and resilience-building efforts, especially in light of the growing number of climate change-induced disasters.
Madam Chakwera made these remarks during her address at the opening of the National Quadria Women’s Dawa event held at Lilongwe Community Ground recently. She emphasized that women and girls are disproportionately affected by climate change-related disasters and stressed the importance of their involvement in environmental protection to mitigate these effects.
Additionally, Madam Chakwera highlighted the significance of the dawa event in preparing women to enhance their resilience during times of disaster.
Khadija Chunga, the National Secretary of the Quadria Muslim Women Organisation, emphasized that this platform provides women with an opportunity to exchange ideas and explore alternatives for self-empowerment in the face of climate change disasters.
The three-day Ijtma brought together more than 2,000 women from both domestic and international backgrounds.
