Minister of Homeland Security Ken Zikhale Ng’oma announced that the government has allocated more than K4 billion to the National Registration Bureau, aiming to enhance its operations. He made this statement during the signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) and the National Registration Bureau (NRB) in Lilongwe yesterday.
Ng’oma assured the public that the Bureau will conduct voter registrations with professionalism, registering all eligible voters accurately. He emphasized that the MoU signifies an ongoing commitment to collaborative efforts, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services and credible elections.
Additionally, Ng’oma highlighted the efforts undertaken by his Ministry to improve service delivery in NRB offices, promising a swift and equitable processing of national IDs for Malawian citizens.
Justice Chifundo Kachale, the chairperson of MEC, stressed the importance of effective collaboration in fulfilling their duties and responsibilities professionally. He emphasized that involving all stakeholders in this process is crucial for conducting fair and successful elections in 2025.
The MoU signed between MEC and NRB is the second one, replacing the agreement signed in 2017, and it plays a crucial role in preparing for the upcoming elections in September 2025.
