The Member of Parliament for Lilongwe City Centre Constituency, Honourable Alfred Jiya has expressed his profound gratitude for President Chakwera’s effort to uplift the lives of Malawians as evidenced by this year’s farm gate prices.

Speaking at the official opening of this year’s Tobacco Marketing Season at Lilongwe Floors, Honourable Alfred Jiya MP said in the past, Soya and other farm products were being sold at giveaway prices because the previous governments had no intention to reward farmers for their hard work.

The parliamentarian also thanked the president for his tremendous support provided to Cyclone Freddy victims. He said Dr Chakwera demonstrated servant leadership when he personally visited and donated various relief items to the flood survivors in all camps in the Southern Region.

Hon Jiya further recommended the president for developing good relationships with neighbouring countries which in turn supported the country following the devastating floods caused by Cyclone Freddy.

On road infrastructure development, Alfred Jiya pleaded with the president to speed up rehabilitation and expansion works of Area 49, Gullivar Road which is almost impassable due to numerous potholes.

This morning, President Chakwera opened this year’s Tobacco Marketing Season with 240 Dollars as the highest price for the gold leaf.
