Mutharika’s step-son Tadikira granted bail over his human trafficking charges

Tadikira Mutharika

Tadikira Mafubza Mutharika, step-son to the former President of the Republic of Malawi, has been granted bail by the High Court in Mzuzu pertaining to the charges that the state leveled against of human trafficking. The step son to the President was on remand at Maula prison in Lilongwe since his arrest on November 23 before being transferred to Mzuzu Prison.

Dead bodies were found in a mass grave at Mtangatanga forest in Mzimba and upon investigations, it transpired that the vehicle which they used to ferry the dead bodies was that of Tadikira and the state eventually netted him. Ironically, the arrest of Tadikira came after former President Mutharika went to town during a press conference accusing the Tonse Alliance administration of killing the people thereby warning the international community of possible human rights violations going on in Malawi.

The bail has been granted by Justice Gladys Gondwe in a ruling she made in the afternoon of yesterday.

The bail conditions include a cash bond of K2 million, two sureties bonded at K5 million non-cash who are his blood relatives, surrendering travel documents, reporting to the police headquarters once in a fortnight and not to interfere with the investigation or get into contact with state witnesses.
