John Maduka, a legendary football player, joined the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), a party that liberated the Malawi nation from the shackles of colonialism in 1964. The MCP welcomed Maduka, who is currently coaching one of the football clubs in the rainbow nation, at a ceremony held in Durban.
Dr. Isaac Nkhata, the chair of the MCP wing in South Africa, was impressed with the growing number of Malawians there who are joining the party, a move which he said will enhance their oneness as Malawians. He was speaking during a visit to Durban by his team, which is touring South Africa to recruit new members.
The visit by the Wing leadership has strengthened the party, according to Billy Kamulanje, Coordinator of the Durban MCP Committee, who further disclosed that addition 47 new members, including football icon John Maduka, have joined the party.
The central committee is scheduled to visit Mpumalanga next week before traveling to Pretoria and Johannesburg later this month after stopping in Cape Town and Durban.
According to Dr. Isaac Nkhata, one of the goals of the tours is to motivate Malawians living abroad to partner with the government of Malawi in the development of the nation through investments and luring tourists and investors to Malawi.
