Immigration personnel at the Regional Office in Lilongwe have arrested Filda Sibanda, 29, a Zimbabwean national for trying to dubiously acquire a Malawian passport.
She was apprehended on Monday, 15 November 2021, during a passport application interview.
Details indicate that she came to Malawi in 2015 using passport number DN 742079 issued on 02/12/ 2013 and will expire on 01/12/2023 while details on Malawi national Identity card indicate that she is Filda Sibanda Magagula, Identity number is V32KS2HN issued on 20/09/2017 and expiry date is 22/10/ 2021.
She is currently in custody.
Immigration Public Relations Officer for Central Region, Inspector Pasqually Zulu, said the suspect will appear before court soon to answer charges of illegal stay under section 21 subsection (1) of the Immigration Act.
The suspect will also answer charges of furnishing false information to obtain a national identity card.
