BLANTYRE – The long arm of the law has caught up with Collins Magalasi, former CEO of the Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA), and businesswoman Dorothy Shonga—popularly known as Cash Madam and Zeze’s wife—after a High Court ruling found them with a case to answer in the high-profile MERA corruption scandal.
Presiding as Chief Resident Magistrate, Judge Patrick Chirwa delivered the damning ruling on Tuesday, declaring that the State had presented compelling evidence to move the case forward.
The duo, along with two other suspects, was arrested in 2020 over allegations of rigging MERA’s procurement process to steer a lucrative K186 million contract toward Shonga’s company, Vink Enterprise.
Now, the heat is on. With the prosecution’s case deemed solid, Magalasi and Shonga must take the stand and explain their role—or risk facing the full force of the law.
