Unima Theology student from Chitipa Martin Kachigaya arrested for stealing laptops

Police in Zomba have confirmed the arrest of a third-year University of Malawi (Unima) student for allegedly being involved in a series of theft cases within the university.

Zomba Police Station Spokesperson, Patricia Sipiliano has identified the suspect as Martin Kachigayi, 26, from Budonda village in the area of Traditional Authority Kameme in Chitipa district.

Sipiliano says they suspect that the student has been stealing laptops belonging to his colleagues.

Further information about the suspect is to the effect that the said third year student is ironically pursuing bachelors of Arts in Theology and fellow students have told Shire Times that he is always in his decent attire—always presentable.

“This guy is a snake in the grass. He has been stealing Phones, PCs, and other things belonging to fellow students in Chikanda, especially in girls’ hostels. He has ever received a warning. But now hear brothers & sisters; Martin has been caught and he is now in police custody here in Zomba. He was caught stealing PCs in a girls’ hostel close to Good Morning restaurant (waba ma PC ambiri ama girls ). Glory be to God wagwidwa.

This malice is his habit,” said one student in a post trending on social media.

Kachigamba will be appearing in Zomba-based courts to answer a case of theft contrary to penal code provisions.
