Tributes Continue to Pour In for Late Hon. Madalitso Kazombo

Tributes are continuing to pour in following the death of former First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Honourable Madalitso Kwaderanji Kazombo, who died yesterday at MASM Clinic in Area 12, Lilongwe.

The Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Hon. Simplex Chithyola, has described the death of Hon. Kazombo as shocking, painful, and a great loss to the nation, Parliament, and the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

In a heartfelt tribute released on Friday, Hon. Chithyola said Malawi has lost a principled leader who lived a life of decency, humility, and dignity in public service. He said Hon. Kazombo was a steady and dependable figure who served Parliament and his party with discipline and integrity, without seeking personal praise.

Hon. Chithyola noted that Hon. Kazombo’s most outstanding quality was his humility. He said the late former Deputy Speaker freely mixed with people from all walks of life, from villagers in rural communities to leaders in high offices, and related well with Members of Parliament across the political divide.

Calling the loss personal, Hon. Chithyola said he not only worked closely with Hon. Kazombo in Parliament, but they also came from the same district, Kasungu. He said the two regularly exchanged ideas on how to improve the lives of the people of Kasungu when Hon. Kazombo served as Member of Parliament for Kasungu East.

“He was calm under pressure, committed to duty, and always capable of lifting heavy moments with a gentle word or quiet humour,” said Chithyola.

Meanwhile, former MCP Secretary General Eisenhower Mkaka has also expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of Hon. Kazombo. In an emotional message, Mkaka said the loss was difficult to accept, describing the news as painful and unbelievable.

“We have lost passion, dedication, vision, and zeal. Words fail me,” said Mkaka, as he paid tribute to the late former Deputy Speaker’s courage and commitment to public service.

According to the funeral programme, vigils are being held at the Kazombo residence in Area 43, Nkhuzi Street, Lilongwe. A church service and party farewell ceremony are expected on Saturday, 10 January 2026, before the body is taken to his maternal home at Vikuyu Estate in Kasungu.

Hon. Madalitso Kazombo will be laid to rest on Sunday, 11 January 2026, at Mphepo Homestead in Vikuyu Estate.
