Tembo’s Presidential send-off; True son of Malawi JZU rests in Dedza’s Mphenzu Hills

The late John Zenus Ungapake Tembo, who devoted his entire life to serving the people, has been laid to rest in Kaphala Village, nestled in the mountainous Dedza district. Although he may have wished to become President of the Republic of Malawi, his send-off resembled a Presidential and quasi-State Funeral, with the entire government apparatus descending upon Dedza for his burial.

Said Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera on his facebook page:

“On the final leg of Right Honourable John Tembo’s earthly journey, we convened at Dedza Stadium in the morning for a service of worship and thereafter an interment ceremony of his remains at Kaphala Village.

“His departure leaves us with timeless memories of a national icon, statesman and an eminent politician who contributed immensely to the social, economic and political landscape of our nation.

“My earnest plea is that the national unity displayed during his funeral should be catalyst to the realisation of the better Malawi we all aspire for.”

He added:

“Go well our mentor. We will always remember your enormous contribution to Malawi Congress Party and national affairs. We are proud of you.”
