President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera’s campaign machine thundered into Nkhotakota on Tuesday, drawing crowds whose energy signaled a political tide too strong for the opposition to ignore.
Speaking at Mkaika Trading Centre in Senior Chief Mwadzama’s area during his whistle-stop tour, the president appealed for patience over the Salima–Nkhotakota M5 road, now under active construction.
“Let us finish what we started,” Chakwera urged, his voice carrying over the packed crowd. “Support my leadership so that together we can complete the development we began—not only here in Nkhotakota, but across the country.”
It was more than a plea; it was a subtle declaration of momentum. The M5 road, a critical economic artery, has become both a literal and symbolic pathway for Chakwera’s campaign narrative: steady, progressive, and determined to reach the finish line.
Aspiring MCP MP for Nkhotakota Nkhula Constituency, Skeffa Chimoto, hailed Chakwera as “a motivating political icon” whose peaceful style and trust in the youth—underscored by his choice of running mate in the September 16 election—have reshaped Malawi’s political culture. Chimoto seized the moment to ask the president to build offices for Senior Chief Mwadzama and other traditional leaders in the district, a call that drew nods from the local leadership.
Senior Chief Mwadzama himself pressed for an upgrade of the road linking Mwansambo Trading Centre to the M5, noting that poor road conditions stifle trade in an area central to Nkhotakota’s agricultural economy.
The president’s visit was less a routine campaign stop than a show of force—a visible reminder that in the closing stretch toward September 16, the MCP is not merely campaigning; it is mobilising, consolidating, and radiating the air of a movement convinced of victory.
For the opposition, the optics were hard to miss: packed trading centres, visible development projects, and a president speaking with the confidence of a man whose political wind is at full sail.
“Let us finish what we started,” Chakwera repeated, the refrain echoing like a campaign drumbeat—steady, relentless, and aimed at the ballot box.
