The Ministry of Health (MoH) has asked the public to be extra careful with their hygiene as they celebrate Mother’s Day over the weekend by adhering to Cholera prevention and containment measures.
Secretary for Health, Charles Mwansambo, asked the citizenry to exercise utmost caution.
“Mother’s Day holiday is characterized by gatherings, travel and feasting [and] there is need to ensure that everyone adheres to the Cholera prevention and containment measures,” Mwansambo said in a statement.
According to the statement, those to be extra careful are those that are travelling to districts reporting Cholera cases particularly lakeshore districts of Salima, Mangochi, Nkhatabay, Nkhotakota and Karonga, which have reported increasing cases of cholera in the past few weeks.
As of Friday, October 14, 2022, the cumulative confirmed cholera cases and deaths reported since the onset of the outbreak was at 4,604 and 132 respectively, with 145 currently in the treatment centres.
The country is experiencing a Cholera outbreak which has affected 25 out of 29 districts.
